Legion of Mary “The Legion of Mary presents the true face of the Catholic Church.” (Pope John XX111) The Legion of Mary was founded in 1921 by a Dublin Civil Servant, Frank Duff, whose Cause for Canonisation is now underway. What started as a small group of women, led by a priest and Frank Duff himself, is now a world-wide association of men and women dedicated to serving God through Mary, in the person of humanity. “The first object of the Legion of Mary is the glory of God through the holiness of its members developed by prayer and active co-operation, under ecclesiastical guidance, in Mary’s and the Church’s work of ....... advancing the reign of Christ.” (Legion Handbook). There are two types of Membership - Active and Auxiliary. Auxiliary Members promise to say certain prayers each day for Our Lady’s intentions. They are vital to the success of the Legion’s work and they are kept informed of Legion activities both at home and abroad. Active Members of a Senior Praesidium (or group), must be over 18 years of age, a practising Catholic, and able to commit to a weekly Meeting lasting approximately one hour, plus two hours Apostolic work each week, in company with another Member. In our Parish, we visit parishioners and others in the local Residential, Nursing and Special Needs Homes. We keep in touch with housebound parishioners, taking them copies of the Parish Newsletter, and when available, Catholic newspapers and magazines. If they wish, we pray with them, but we always pray for them. We also visit non-Catholics who have expressed an interest in the Catholic Faith. If you would like to know more, please come along to one of our Meetings which are currently being held on Wednesdays at 7:00pm in St.Paul’s Meeting Room at St. Paul’s Catholic Church , Sundridge Park, Yate. You will be made very welcome. There is a three month trial period in which to decide whether or not the Legion is for you.
